Nonconformities in Telco Field Engineering

1. Not labeling installed cabling in Data Centers.
2. Not installing grounding cables when applicable.
3. Not installing warning labels when applicable.
4. Installing damaged fiber optic cables.
5. Installing dirty fiber connectors.
6. Installing equipment directly on top of another device or cables without using proper mounting accessories.
7. Installing equipment in a rack with the hot exhaust fans facing the cold aisle.
8. Leaving site without securely closing the rack or cage in which you are working.

Remedies

1. Request local staff for a label maker if there are only few labels to make. Alternatively, suggest to the customer that a revisit will be required at the earliest convenience.
2. Source a replacement grounding cable if the original was not shipped and install at earliest opportunity.
3. Return with warning labels and apply them as soon as possible.
4. Replace the damaged cabling for new cables after they have been cleaned and scoped.
5. Clean both the fiber connectors and the ports in which they were installed. Scope and re-clean as needed. If necessary, replace the patch cable.
6. Request mounting brackets be sent or suggest installing a tray on which you can install the device.
7. Remove the equipment and install the equipment on the other side of the rack.
8. Notify security or local contact that the cage is still open and that they please close it if you have already left. If still on site, do it yourself if able.
